Sept 26, 2022 - The Super Shorts New York Film Festival celebrated its 2022 edition last week with three screening nights showing shorts from around the globe. Festival manager and host Maarten Cornelis: "New York Super Shorts was happy to be working again with the great team of the Film Noir Cinema in Brooklyn, NY. We had a great turn out, and thanks to our sponsors, we were able to give away some free tickets too. This year, we introduced new categories like Best Director and Best Actor (Gender Neutral) and we screened an amazing selection thanks to our Festival Director, Kris De Meester. About 1,200 films were submitted to the festival and 37 of them made it into the official 2022 selection. I am happy to say that thanks to this year's success, we will be back a the Film Noir Cinema next year and will be able to offer a free ticket to every guest! See you next year!"

BEST NARRATIVE FILM: MAMMA (Norway) by Aslak Danbolt. “It’s Christmas Eve, and Synnøve is searching for her drug-addicted daughter Michelle in an almost desolated city.”
BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM: SCARS (Canada) by Alex Anna. “Alex Anna’s body is a canvas : her scars come to life to tell a new story of self-harming. Live action and animation intertwine in this short and poetic documentary, both intimate and universal.”
BEST ANIMATED FILM: LOSING IT (Austria) by Sascha Vernik. “After losing the tool he relies on most, a fraud information worker decides to go back in time to prevent it.”
BEST SUPER SHORT FILM: DYNAMITE (France) by Jim Vieille. “April 2020. Lêg always stays locked up at home, engrossed by screens that all broadcast the same image: a burning car. But is it the outside world that smoulders or Lêg himself ?”
BEST MUSIC VIDEO: ONCE THERE WAS III (USA) by Nina Mcneely. “Three women bound to a shared soul oscillating between the throes of brutality and piety. A visceral display of true sisterhood- they suffer together, thrive together and bleed together.”
BEST EXPERIMENTAL FILM: UPSODOWN (Australia) by Nathan Ceddia. “An omniscient narrator leads us through various surreal worlds exploring the disconnect between humanity and nature. We are reminded that all living things are connected and collectively shared, on this planet - our home.”
BEST UNDERGROUND FILM: THE PRISONER (Poland) by Łukasz Gierańczyk, Filip Drzewiecki. “One night with an ex-convict on the streets of Vancouver. Inspired by cinéma-vérité.”
BEST NY FILM: TRASH DAY (USA) by Caroline Vokas. “America's abundance of discarded goods is examined through New York City dumpster divers.”
BEST DIRECTOR: ASLAK DANBOLT (Mamma).

With annual film festivals in London, New York, and Los Angeles, Super Shorts Film Festival highlights independent short film talent from around the globe. Talent Circle in London founded the Super Shorts London Film Festival in 2003, to focus explicitly on short films in all its forms and shapes. During its original eleven year run, the festival has shown over 2,000 incredible short films, from slick 35mm shorts to weird and wonderful experimental films. Unfortunately, in its original incarnation, the festival came to an end in 2014. Inspired by that original movement, the revived Super Shorts London Film Festival has continued since 2018 to emphasize lesser known, vanguard cinematic works and further its tradition of galvanizing budding talent. In 2020, under the wings of Cinematory LLC, Super Shorts brought to life two new festivals at new exciting locations in New York and Los Angeles. Super Shorts Film Festival creates an intimate atmosphere and space for unique visionaries and voices. True to their history, the different festivals screen films of both novices and veterans—with medium and low budgets—from all over the globe. Super Shorts Film Festival's goal is to create a warm, open atmosphere in which filmmakers, fans, critics, and producers can watch the films of emerging talents, explore new cinematic techniques and styles, and award cinematic excellence.
